ON CIRCUIT
RANN: Ram Gopal Varma's hugely anticipated star-studded release, with Amitabh Bachchan heading the cast. This time, RGV hones in on the media as his story is centred on India 24/7, a private news channel run by Vijay Harshwardhan Malik, who is a firm believer in enforcing ethics when it comes to good journalism. However, his values aren't shared by all. Rann looks at how politics, ambition and principles cast an unflattering shadow on the media. *** TA
VEER: From the misty pages of history comes a story of extreme valour, fierce pride and poignant love. As the strongest of the Pindaris, Veer takes on the British Empire as well as the conniving King of Madavgarh and his jealous tribesmen. The stakes are raised when he falls in love with princess Yashodhara, the daughter of his sworn enemy. Veer is an epic saga penned, produced and starring Salman Khan. The poor script isn't helped by Anil Sharma's shoddy direction. ** NKD
DULHA MIL GAYA: A rom-com about four people with conflicting views on relationships. Donsai enjoys life as a carefree bachelor, until he falls in love that is. Meanwhile, Shimmer doesn't place much importance on relationships as making money becomes the focus of her life and this creates friction in her romance with multimillionaire Pawan, who is a hopeless romantic. This film is done in by its wafer-thin script and poor direction. ** TA
3 IDIOTS: Two friends embark on a road trip in a quest to find their best friend, Rancho. As they navigate their way through some rather perilous landscapes, they reminisce about the impact Rancho had on their lives and also realise that they know so very little about him. 3 Idiots will tickle the funny bone, make you cry and, last but not least, leave an indelible impression. This is an awe-inspiring team effort by all involved in the making of this superb movie. **** TA
